McGhee calls for ruthless display

Mark McGhee has told Aberdeen to go for the jugular against Raith Rovers on Wednesday and kill off any prospect of another cup shock early on. The Dons were sent crashing out of the Scottish Cup by the Irn-Bru First Division side earlier this year, a result which McGhee described as the worst of his managerial career. Both teams prepare to do battle again in the third round of the Co-operative Insurance Cup and the Dons boss wants to see his side out of the traps quickly.McGhee said: "We've had them watched in the last two games at Ross County and Dundee and they've not been scored against."They have great work ethic, they are a well-organised team playing in a way where they make the best of what they have, and they are very difficult to beat while still having that little bit of a threat up front."They are well balanced in that respect but we have to break that down, we have to start the game at a high tempo, not give them a rest physically or mentally, keep the pressure on them and try to make the first breakthrough."If we can do that, I think we can make it a difficult night for Raith Rovers."McGhee believes Aberdeen will have plenty more to offer in the cup competitions once back to full strength if they can progress past Raith. He added: "It would be hugely beneficial to go on a cup run from the point of view of this present squad and their development."I think we have a lot more to come because the players who are out will be back and, if we could get ourselves through this round and to a point where we would have Andrius Velicka, Sone Aluko and Peter Pawlett all back, then I think we would be in a good position to progress."At the moment, we've got to concentrate fully on this one and, if we can turn it into a cup run, then fantastic."
