Round backs Moyes to get it right

David Moyes is leaving "no stone unturned" in his quest to turn around Everton's poor start to the season, according to assistant Steve Round. Round says the Toffees manager is determined to arrest a run that has yielded just two points from five Premier League games.Moyes said in the aftermath of Saturday's 1-0 loss to Newcastle that he intended to lay down the law and he showed that by calling his players in for early training yesterday."He is resilient and he is tough," said Round. "His main focus is on turning everything around. He is not happy, that is for sure, and I think the players have experienced that."He will be determined to drive the team forward and get back to where we should be."There is no question there will be no stone unturned with his preparation and attention to detail."This guy is an absolutely outstanding manager and he has managed at the highest level in the Premier League for a long time."He will certainly be using all that experience, talent and knowledge to make sure we come out winning."Moyes felt his side had played well for little reward in their first four outings but the below-par display at Goodison Park on Saturday has hardened his resolve.Round said: "For the first time on Saturday our performance let us down and we did not get the result either."The players were very down after the game and we do need a lift."It was a dip in confidence and performance levels, energy levels, effort levels - everything wasn't right."It is not something the manager will tolerate and it is not something the players will tolerate themselves."We have got a bunch here who are very self aware and take ownership of their performance."They know it wasn't acceptable and they will be determined to put it right."Everton will hope for a result to kickstart their season when they travel to League One Brentford in the third round of the Carling Cup on Tuesday.Moyes is likely to make changes with Saturday's trip to Fulham in mind, but also wants to use the game to play some of his first team into form. The squad on duty against Newcastle will all be in contention for the clash at Griffin Park and midfield talisman Tim Cahill could return after a knee injury."This is not an easy game against Brentford," Round said. "They are a well-organised, hard-working, disciplined team. It is never an easy place to go."We have seen upsets before on many occasions and we have to make sure that doesn't happen in this game - that is our responsibility."If we work hard enough and have the right organisation and discipline and let our quality come through we should win the game but you never know."One of Everton's main problems this term has been their lack of goals having failed to score in all three of their defeats. With Louis Saha out injured and Yakubu only just back to fitness after the World Cup, that has placed extra pressure on new signing Jermaine Beckford.Beckford has netted just once - in the Carling Cup second-round win over Huddersfield - since his summer move from Leeds but Round insists he just needs time.He said: "Forwards always need goals to get the confidence going."We know he can score goals, we know his technique for finishing is excellent."Hopefully he can get one and then another and then away we go."It is very early for Jermaine. He has come in on a free transfer from the lower divisions and it takes a while to adapt to the intensity, not only of the games but of the day-to-day training."Round also backs Yakubu to come good after returning to the fold with two substitute appearances."He came back from the World Cup a bit late and he was a bit unfit," Round said."There were rumours in the summer he might leave but that has all gone now, the window is shut."He has knuckled down, worked hard and trained really well. He is a big part of the squad and I think we will see him feature more in the coming weeks."
