Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given free to leave in January, says Roberto Mancini

The Irish international is yet to play this season after finding himself behind Joe Hart in the club's goalkeeping ranks and spoke yesterday of his increasing frustration at not being handed the chance to win back his place. Mancini admits he sympathises with his goalkeeper's complaints, but has urged him to retain his focus until his long-term future can be resolved in three months' time.  Related ArticlesWigan 0 Manchester City 2Wigan Athletic v Manchester City: liveWigan v Man City: match previewMilner takes centre stageSilva calls on City fans to be patientRed Bull Salzburg 0 Manchester City 2'I have a lot of respect for Shay,' the Italian said. 'I told him before the transfer market finished that he could choose, that I hoped he would stay but that if he wanted to leave, then he could. 'I understand if a player does not play, it is difficult. If he wants to leave I respect his decision because he is a fantastic man and a fantastic goalkeeper.'
