Berbatov treble inspires United

Dimitar Berbatov's hat-trick saw Manchester United edge a thrilling 3-2 win over Liverpool, whose miserable start to the season continues. Berbatov capped a first half of dominance for United when he headed home Ryan Giggs' corner three minutes before the interval. Nani sent a thumping effort into the post as United upped the ante after the break, before they doubled their lead when Berbatov sumptuously controlled Nani's cross and crashed home a stunning overhead kick on the hour. But Liverpool rallied and Steven Gerrard reduced their arrears five minutes later when he converted a penalty after Jonny Evans had fouled Fernando Torres. And the comeback was complete after 70 minutes when Gerrard curled in a 20-yard free-kick when John O'Shea had hauled down Torres. But Berbatov had the final say when he headed home O'Shea's cross with six minutes left to crucially ensure United returned to winning ways.
