Rovers boss eyeing Benjani - Report

Allardyce is in the market for a new striker after losing Roque Santa Cruz and Matt Derbyshire this summer, and he is concentrating his search on the Premier League as he seeks a player with experience at this level. Allardyce remains a firm admirer of Tottenham's Darren Bent but Sunderland are reported to have failed with a £12million bid for the former Charlton man and Blackburn have not got that sort of money to spend. Manchester City are likely to let at least one striker go as they chase yet another big-name signing and the likes of Valeri Bojinov, Craig Bellamy and Felipe Caicedo could all be of interest to Rovers if they are deemed surplus to requirements at the City of Manchester Stadium. Benjani could be a more viable target, though, and the Lancashire Telegraph claims the 30-year-old is very much in the thinking of Allardyce. The former Portsmouth man has expressed his interest in making a return to Fratton Park if he is let go by Hughes this summer but the south coast outfit are still facing an uncertain future and Blackburn could well find themselves with a clear path if Stoke and Fulham opt against firming up their interest.
