Liverpool FC new boy Raul Meireles up four the challenge

RAUL MEIRELES today set his sights on following in the footsteps of a Liverpool legend - as he revealed Sami Hyypia's number four jersey can prove inspirational. The Reds' £11m plus major summer signing made his Liverpool debut when coming on as a late substitute in Sunday's 0-0 draw with Birmingham City. It was the first glimpse supporters have seen of the Portugal international, who has taken over the shirt which was vacated by Alberto Aquilani. But if Aquilani's stay on Merseyside was wretched, the same could not be said of Hyypia, who left in 2009 after giving the Reds a decade of glorious service. And Meireles - who is in line to start against Steaua Bucharest tomorrow night - is hoping that, in time, it will prove to be both a lucky and successful number for him too.'I knew the number four (shirt) once belonged to Sami Hyypia and the supporters liked him as he was a great player for Liverpool,' said the 27-year-old, who wore number three with Porto.'So I have to be great with this number - and I will try to do what I have to do to be great. I want to win (trophies) because in Porto I won a lot and I have many titles.'But I want to win titles at Liverpool and we have a chance because we have the players.'I will work a lot to win titles at this club.
