Usually a right-back, Wright, who began his career at Liverpool before moving on to Sunderland, has revealed manager Chris Coleman has approached him about the potential move.
He told the Coventry Evening Telegraph: "The manager has spoken to me and told me I may have to play a few more games at centre-back and that's not a problem with me as long as I'm playing.
"I think that position would be better for me in terms of avoiding injuries and I think that is where he is coming from in saying I might have a few games there.
"We are a centre-back down anyway with Scott Dann leaving so it's not a problem for me."
