Lithuania striker wins Hibs deal

Hibernian have announced the signing of Lithuania striker Valdas Trakys until the end of the season following a successful trial. The 31-year-old, who has 11 caps for his country, becomes Hibs' seventh summer signing after impressing manager John Hughes in training.Hibs are waiting for confirmation of international clearance for Trakys, who could make his debut in Saturday's Scottish Premier League clash with Hamilton at Easter Road.Trakys was a free agent after leaving Greek club Panserraikos and heard complimentary noises about Edinburgh and Hibs from his numerous compatriots at Hearts.Trakys, who also impressed Hughes in a closed-doors friendly with Dundee United last Tuesday, is eager to get started.Trakys told www.hibernianfc.co.uk: "I'm really pleased to sign for Hibernian - a big club with a great history and ambitious plans for the future."I already knew a lot about Scottish football before, but I never fully appreciated what an impressive club Hibernian was until I met with the manager and had a look around the stadium."Throughout my career, I have always tried to make an impact in the team immediately and I want that to continue with Hibernian."I know quite a few players who have links with Hearts and they have all said what a wonderful city Edinburgh is and that my style will suit the Scottish game."I just want to get on the pitch as soon as possible."Anthony Stokes departed Hibs for Celtic on transfer deadline day, meaning Hughes had a void to fill up front. He recruited Darryl Duffy on loan from Bristol Rovers, but the striker is expected to be out for several weeks with a foot injury.Hughes said: "Valdas is a player who has been on our radar for a while now and, over the past week, we have been able to run the rule over his credentials and he certainly fits the bill."He has lot of experience and a good physical presence - he will give us a different option up front and we're pleased to be able to bring him into the club."Even once the (transfer) window closed, we have been working hard to try and strengthen the team and we believe Valdas will prove to be a very useful acquisition."
