Roberto Di Matteo has revealed West Brom fought off Premier League competition for the signature of Simon Cox.
Cox on Wednesday finally put pen to paper on his £1.9million switch from Swindon, signing a two-year deal at The Hawthorns with the option of a further two years in the club's favour.
And new Baggies head coach Di Matteo is backing the 22-year-old striker to make a big impression.
He said: "Simon is an exciting young talent with bags of ambition, hunger and determination. He has a very good goalscoring record and I think he will be a great asset for our team next season.
I've seen him many times and he has the ability to do well in the Championship.
"He had a lot of interest from other clubs, including one or two Premier League clubs, and we are very happy that he has signed for us."
Meanwhile, West Brom's fixture against Preston at Deepdale on Saturday October 3 will now kick-off at 12.45 having been selected for live screening by Sky.
