Evans feels at home with United

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans believes he has now won the trust of those around Old Trafford three years after making his debut. It is a crucial week for the club with Rangers arriving on Tuesday in the Champions League followed by a showdown with Liverpool at the weekend. The 22-year-old Evans, who went on loan to Sunderland to gain experience, has already made numerous appearances for United in big games. While he realises he faces stiff competition to play in the team from Rio Ferdinand, fit again after a knee injury, Nemanja Vidic, Wes Brown and Chris Smalling, Evans is aware he is perceived differently now.Evans said: "Whoever the manager chooses you have to accept it. It is good to have Rio back as he is such an important player in the squad."My place is always under threat even if Rio came back or not. I have Chris Smalling and Wes Brown behind me waiting for their chance to play."So any mess ups or if the manager doesn't think you are putting it in, he is going to take you out of the team. I do not think my position has changed that much."But I am sure I have gained the trust of all the lads, the manager and fans. When they see my name on the team-sheet they are not worried I was a young lad stepping in."I think I have gained enough credibility and experience the last couple of seasons to warrant a place in the starting line-up."It is a special Champions League match for manager Sir Alex Ferguson, a boyhood Rangers fan, who later played for the club, scoring 35 goals in 66 appearances. He also has had two spells working alongside their boss Walter Smith, first in the Scotland set-up and later at Old Trafford.United will no doubt settle for a similar result to the one they achieved against Alex McLeish's Rangers in the group stages in the 2003/04 campaign. They won 1-0 at Ibrox thanks to a goal from Phil Neville then 3-0 at home with Diego Forlan and Ruud van Nistelrooy (2) on the scoresheet.United are aiming to bounce back from the disappointment of last season when they lost in the quarter-final to Bayern Munich after being in the driving seat. It was the first time they had failed to reach the last four since 2006.Meanwhile Evans' younger brother Corry is on United's B list for the group stages - and growing in stature. The 20-year-old midfielder got the winner for Northern Ireland in their victory against Slovenia in a Euro 2012 qualifier.Jonny, who was in the stand because of a groin injury, said: "When we scored I just jumped up celebrating. I didn't know who scored. Then I realised it was Corry and I was telling everyone."The main thing for Corry is probably to get out on loan. I think being an international will raise his profile. He did very well when he came on and the management were really impressed with him."
