Grant backs Redknapp for England

West Ham manager Avram Grant thinks Harry Redknapp should be the man to replace Fabio Capello when the Italian leaves his post in 2012. The former Real Madrid boss, who led England through a disappointing World Cup campaign, confirmed after this week's impressive 3-1 victory in Switzerland he will step down following the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine in two years' time. The Football Association are determined to appoint an Englishman in Capello's place and bookmakers have made Spurs boss Redknapp favourite for the position.Redknapp, who led Spurs to a fourth-placed finish in the Premier League last year, admitted yesterday he would not turn down the offer to manage his country.Steve Bruce and Roy Hodgson would also be leading contenders for the post but Grant, who worked alongside Redknapp at Portsmouth reckons the 63-year-old would be the perfect replacement for Capello."The next England manager has to be Harry Redknapp," said Grant."Redknapp knows about the football, the English mentality, how to get the best from the players."Capello has said he will finish his job in 2012 but this is the time to give it to Redknapp."From now on every body will speculate who will be the next manager."The FA should take this decision and in my opinion it should be Redknapp.I have worked with him I know how good he is, he knows how to get the best from the English players, he can do the job."
