Manchester United captain Gary Neville shock admission of his ‘respect’ for Liverpool FC

MANCHESTER UNITED captain Gary Neville admits even bitter rivals Liverpool command more respect from him than certain clubs 'who throw a load of money' at success.Although the veteran Manchester United captain did not mention anyone by name, given he was comparing them unfavourably with Liverpool - the team he despised as a kid - it is hard not to feel Manchester City might be in his sights.'When I was a youngster, they (Liverpool) won everything,' said Neville - famed down the years for his snarled expressions and taunting of fans at Britain's most successful football club.'It was horrible. Jealousy does come into it but I have more respect for their traditions than I would for some of the other clubs coming onto the scene throwing a load of money at it. Added Neville of the five times European champions: 'They (Liverpool) have got history.'His praise of the Reds is in stark contrast to some of his infamous on-pitch antics - eptomised in January 2006 when he ran theatrically the length of the Old Trafford pitch to gesticulate angrily towards Liverpool's fans after a late winner for his side.
