Cherries: Josh won't rest on laurels
Cherries' man of the moment Josh McQuoid admits he is still pinching himself following his whirlwind fortnight. McQuoid has been propelled from the substitutes' bench to the top of the League One goalscorers' charts in just three games. The 20-year-old made an instant impression when he opened the scoring at Tranmere after being drafted in as a late replacement for Bristol City-bound Brett Pitman. And he proved his strike was no flash in the pan when he hit a double during the 3-3 draw with Notts County before following up with arguably the pick of his quartet against Huddersfield. It's been surreal, said Pennington-raised McQuoid who lined up in the same Priestlands School team as former Cherries striker Sam Vokes. It's a strange feeling but I'm delighted. I had only scored one goal before this season and even that was a debatable one. It's hard not to notice being one of the top goalscorers in the league because you see things and people tell you. It's a good feeling but I'm not getting ahead of myself. McQuoid's exploits have helped Cherries hit 13 goals in their first five league games to become the top marksmen in the Football League. Considering Brett has gone and people were wondering from where the goals were going to come, that's a good stat, said McQuoid. When Brett was here, we probably relied on him too much. The manager spoke to us in pre-season and told us more people needed to score. The lads have stepped up and come good. It's a good sign because we've got a lot of players who can create goals as well as score them. I was used to scoring goals in the youth team but haven't scored too many for the first team. Now I'm back in the groove, I just want to carry it on.
