Micah Richards targeting England recall to send Manchester City into seventh heaven

Mighty Micah: Richards has impressed this seasonMicah Richards has set his sights on becoming Manchester City's seventh representative in the England side. City dominated the England line up in the 3-1 win over Switzerland on Tuesday night with Gareth Barry, Adam Johnson, Shaun Wright-Phillips, James Milner, Joleon Lescott and Joe Hart all finishing the game. And Richards, recently recalled to the Under 21 squad thanks to his fine early-season form for City, is hoping to push on and earn another chance with the senior squad. The right back has won 12 England caps to date, with his last appearance coming in 2007. Richards said: 'I want to push on and get in the seniors now, and there is no reason why I can't if I'm starting in Manchester City's team.' He added that the backing he has received from Under 21 boss Stuart Pearce has spurred him on to achieve greater things in his career. He said: 'When the boss has confidence in you that definitely helps your game, and for him to say that if I concentrate I can become one of the best defenders in England is quite a compliment to get from your manager. City boys: Adam Johnson (left) and Gareth Barry (second left) are among the England contingent from the win in Basle to ply their trade at Eastlands 'I wouldn't say I've got the hunger back because I never lost it. But I think the increased competition in our squad has made me play a little bit better. 'I want that to continue for the rest of the season. If we can win something for the fans and I'm playing well, then there's no reason why I can't get back in the England squad.'  As six City players help to beat the Swiss, a brief history of Club EnglandEngland No 1 Hart offered a bumper £90k-a-week deal to stick with Man CityBalotelli out for six weeks as City's £23m man undergoes knee surgeryMANCHESTER CITY FC
