Marseille plot January swoop for Chelsea's Didier Drogba after having summer bid rebuffed

Marseille will return to Chelsea with an improved bid for former terrace idol Didier Drogba having being rebuffed earlier this summer. Club president Jean-Claude Dassier made no secret of his wish to bring the Ivorian powerhouse back to Ligue 1 and has now admitted he went so far as to make an offer for the frontman last month. The bid, though, was dismissed out of hand by the Premier League champions who themselves had also been in the market for a new striker. Wanted: Didier Drogba is one of the most sought after striker's in the worldDrogba joined Chelsea from Marseille for £24m in 2004 after just one year in the south of France. However he captured the hearts of the club's supporters and has himself stated a desire to return to the club one day. Dassier hopes that day can come sooner rather than later. 'We'll see, you should never give up in life.'Marseille are keen to bolster their attacking unit after letting Hatem Ben Arfa join Newcastle United and Mamadou Niang move to Fenerbahce during the transfer window.  The two teams meet in the Champions League at the end of the month.Meanwhile Jose Mourinho is also considering a move for Drogba. The Portuguese was the man who brought the Ivory Coast captain to Stamford Bridge.
