Darren Bent always knew he would roar with Three Lions

Darren Bent scored his first England goal and then insisted he has never given up hope of being a force at international level. Bent has struggled to reproduce the form he has shown at club level when representing his country, but put the seal on an impressive 3-1 win over Switzerland with the third goal in the Euro 2012 qualifier in Basle. The Sunderland striker said: 'It was great to score my first goal for England. I have had a few chances for England and been unable to put one away so I am delighted. All over: Bent wraps up England's victory with the third goal in Switzerland'Premier League-wise, I have a good record. It is nice to get one for your country. Hopefully now there are many more to come.'I never thought my England chances would fade. It's disappointing when you miss out on the World Cup or a major tournament. 'But at the same time you have to keep your head down and keep working hard for your club. 'As long as my Premier League form is good, international football will never be too far away. 'I have started the season like I finished last season. Hopefully I can score more. I have always scored goals for my clubs. I have to let my football do the talking.' Bent admitted: 'It has been frustrating sometimes (my England form) but I have to keep going and work hard. Two good: Johnson scores the second for England'When the chances come, you have to take them. My mum and dad, from when I could kick a ball until now, were my driving force. 'When I get on the coach I will phone them. Dad knows his stuff as he played football when younger. He always said never give up.' Wayne Rooney and Adam Johnson were the other marksmen for England, who have taken maximum points from their opening two qualifiers. Johnson, who scored for the second successive match as a substitute, said: 'We've come off the back of two great wins and everyone is happy. 'It's a great two results and we're looking forward to meeting up again full of confidence. 'The aim is to make a contribution. You're disappointed not to be starting and you want to do your best when you come on and try to push to get into the starting XI. I tried to do that and I've got a couple of goals.' A true pro!
