Edwin van der Sar eyes new contract to take him well into his 40s at Manchester United

Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is hoping for 12 month extension to his contract - but needs to play 30 games this season to earn it. The veteran Dutch stopper penned a year-long deal at Old Trafford in February with a clause written in which could take him past his 41st birthday. Battling it out: Van der Sar (r) may have to sit it out on European nights as Kuszczak is handed his chanceBut he featured just 29 times for the Reds last term and faces stern competition from Poliosh reserve Tomasz Kuszczak.
