Former Reading and Portsmouth midfielder Glen Little wants to kickstart his career with Sheffield United.
Little, 33, is on trial with the Blades with a view to earning a permanent deal after being released by Portsmouth earlier this week.
He told BBC Radio Sheffield: "I'm coming up for the first couple of weeks of pre-season and that includes the trip to Malta.
"I got a phone call from Sam (Ellis), who I have known for a long time, and he said come up and let's see how you get on.
"I want to get my career going again and Sam has told me that it's a good club. I've had plenty of battles with Sheffield United over the years, it's always a good atmosphere at the ground.
"I thought the club were unlucky in the attempt to get back in the Premier League last season."
