Westlake wants more

Young defender Darryl Westlake is hoping he did enough to earn an extended run in the Walsall team after being handed his first start of the season against Chesterfield. The 19-year-old full-back, who started in Tuesday's 2-1 Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat, earned the club's Young Player of the Year award last term and is keen to continue his progress, having watched from the bench during the start of the Saddlers' campaign. "I have waited patiently for my chance," he told the club's official website. "I felt good going into the game and my performance in the second half was better. "I know that I have to try and grab this opportunity with both hands; it will be a tough test against Colchester on Saturday as they were up there challenging for the play-offs last season. "But we know that if everyone does their jobs, we will give ourselves every chance of getting back into winning ways. "It's been a bit of an up-and-down start to the season for us, but if we can get on a bit of a run, we will be okay. The new signings have all come in and made a contribution, and with the squad we have, I expect us to be up there challenging at the right end of the table."
