Johnson eyes bright future
Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson is looking forward to a long career at Eastlands and believes the club can eventually land the Premier League title. Johnson excelled under former coach Sven Goran Eriksson two seasons ago and earned comparisons to City legend Colin Bell, while also attracting interest from Liverpool and Arsenal.However, the 21-year old endured a difficult campaign last term as he struggled to overcome a series of muscular problems which kept him on the sidelines.The former England Under 21 international is eager to put last season behind him and believes the club can win the Premier League during his stay."Of course it is realistic to think Manchester City could be champions in my time at the club," he said."Every player at the club wants to finish as high as we can. But the truth is we want to win the league. That is the bottom line."High profileSince the club's takeover by Sheikh Mansour's Abu Dhabi-based consortium last summer, the club have been linked with a string of high-profile players such as Ronaldinho and Kaka, and they even managed to land striker Robinho.World stars Carlos Tevez and Samuel Eto'o are also reportedly on boss Mark Hughes' radar, with the former expected to sign next week.The acquisitions of British stars such as Gareth Barry have further strengthened the squad, and Johnson admits it is an exciting time to be a City player."It is fantastic to be linked with all these players," he said. "It would be even better to get them."The midfielder admits it has been difficult recovering from injury and has found it tough to force his way back into the side following the arrival of several central midfielders."Going from playing every week to being out of the side so suddenly has been soul-destroying," he said.Focused"I have had to try and stay focused and keep calm, even though it has been tough at times."It is such an exciting time to be at Manchester City and I have not been able to be part of it. It is very frustrating."But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now because I am confident we have got to the root of the problem."I have been working really hard and hopefully now I can remain injury-free."There are so many high-quality players at the club now, you simply cannot afford to be injured."
