Di Santo delight at Latics move

Franco Di Santo believes his move to Wigan provided the best option available to him - despite attracting interest from other clubs. The striker joined the Latics on transfer deadline day for an undisclosed free after struggling to settle at Premier League champions Chelsea. The 21-year-old - who has agreed a three-year deal - says Roberto Martinez's side provided him with the chance to play regular first-team football at a vital stage in his career. And he now hopes to make an impact at the DW Stadium following Wigan's difficult start to the new season."I think I needed to come to Wigan Athletic at this point in my career," Di Santo told the club's official website. "Chelsea is a fantastic club but I didn't have too many opportunities there, so I'm very happy to have made this move."At my age I need to be playing regular football so it's an important move for me and I hope to earn a place in the team and then try my hardest to stay there."He added: "There were some other offers at the time but Wigan was the move I wanted."I wanted to stay in England, in the best league in the world and join a club that is moving in the right direction."So together with my family and friends I decided this was the right move for me."The Argentina Under-20 international was impressed by the ambition of manager Martinez and he believes his time at Wigan will take him to the next level.Di Santo continued: "Roberto and I spoke about the club, where he wants to take it and how he wants me to play a part in that."I'm still young so I think that if I try my best and work hard here I will get the chance to play. "I haven't set myself any targets, I just want to focus on getting up to speed and trying to get into the team first."
