Davis: Fan reaction understandable

Southampton goalkeeper Kelvin Davis was not surprised by the supporters' reaction to the sacking of manager Alan Pardew. Saints fans made their feelings clear to chairman Nicola Cortese during the Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat by Swindon after his shock decision to axe the club's most popular boss since Gordon Strachan. "I think the fans were behind us 100% even though we didn't give them much to cheer about, but we still felt they were fair in their will for us to win," said Davis. "We've said it many times before that the fans are the important ones, they can be our 12th man." Cortese is now on the hunt for a new manager, but reports claiming he has approached ex-Portsmouth chief Paul Hart are understood to be wide of the mark. "It's important the right person is appointed to continue what we want to achieve," added Davis.
