Sunderland shatter transfer record to sign Gyan

SUNDERLAND have shattered their transfer record to complete the capture of Ghana international Asamoah Gyan. The Black Cats have shelled out more than £13m to sign Gyan from Rennes, with the striker signing a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light. The 24-year-old agreed personal terms and passed a medical at Sunderland's training ground today, after flying into England last night. He impressed during Ghana's run to the World Cup quarter-finals this summer, scoring three of his nation's four goals in South Africa. Gyan will be available to make his Sunderland debut in the away game at Wigan on September 11. The African is the only player to have joined the Black Cats on the final day of the transfer window, with the club's attempts to make a last-gasp move for Charles N'Zogbia having come to nothing.
