Blackburn could be set to replace Roque Santa Cruz with another Paraguayan international in Oscar Cardozo, according to reports in Portugal.
Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has been a long-term admirer of the Benfica striker after trying to sign him during his time in charge of Bolton.
Allardyce was priced out of a move back then but it is believed Rovers are willing to delve into funds raised from the £18million sale of Santa Cruz to Manchester City.
Benfica signed the 26-year-old for €12million in the summer of 2007 from Newells Old Boys, but his valuation has soared with the Lisbon club thought to be asking for €18million.
"Formally we have not received any propositions but the club is open to study the subject," a Benfica source claimed.
The Portuguese outfit are reportedly looking to cash in on the front-man, who scored 17 goals from 26 league games last term, to ease their financial problems.
