Lennon delighted after Buddies win

St Mirren boss Danny Lennon guided his side to victory over Hibernian on Sunday after learning the lessons of a tough week in management. The Paisley side moved off the bottom of the SPL table with a 1-0 home win, immediately rocketing up into fifth place thanks to the three points secured by Craig Dargo's second-half goal.Lennon's team had lost 4-0 at Celtic seven days earlier and suffered a midweek penalty shootout defeat at First Division Ross County in the League Cup, and the manager praised his players' attitude and resilience in earning a vital victory. He said: "I'm delighted to get a win after coming off two very difficult games, losing four goals against Celtic and three at Ross County and going out."Even if we'd won through [in the shootout], I still felt that there were individuals who weren't as one, but there were 11 hearts beating as one today."I had said to them that you can't turn it on or switch it off when you feel like it - football's a habit and that has to be winning games, and there's no doubt they have that character."Hibs have a great reputation for the sort of football they play and on their day, given time, they'll knock it about for fun."We had a valuable lesson at Celtic last Sunday so we worked on a high pressing game; I felt we got that although I was disappointed that when we won possession, we didn't use the ball well."In the second half, I asked for a bit more and we certainly got that, and I'm delighted for [goalkeeper] Paul Gallacher as he's been our best player in the past couple of games, so I'm glad he got a clean sheet - all the balls Hibs had were in front of us."Lennon added of Cowdenbeath signings Darren McGregor and Gareth Wardlaw: "I was delighted the game was live on TV; the nation's had a chance to see them and they're only going to improve as players."Michael Higdon missed out due to a groin strain, and the St Mirren manager added ahead of Tuesday's transfer window closure: "I'm waiting on the Alan Gow situation - he has a big decision to make but I'll be honest, I'm running out of patience a wee bit."I have one or two other irons in the fire, but he's still the type of quality I want at this club."Easter Road manager John Hughes was unimpressed by the manner in which his Hibs side lost the winning goal.He said: "At times we played some nice stuff but I've seen us pass it better - I couldn't see St Mirren scoring but said, 'I hope we don't get our pocket picked'."With great respect, for a ball to come into the box and St Mirren get the header and the second ball was a really cheap goal, but those are the goals we lose at Hibs."Crosses and that bit of penetration in the final third were what we were missing; I felt we were outworked as St Mirren were resolute, solid, had good shape and fought for everything that was going."I had three or four players just not at it and it's not acceptable, come showtime on matchday - they let themselves and the team down as you have to put in a shift; I felt St Mirren wanted it more but we just have to bounce back."Hughes said of forward Anthony Stokes, who could move to Celtic before the transfer deadline: "I felt he was poor, but I can understand it with everything on his mind; sometimes you play on emotions and if it was to be his last game I thought he might go out with a bang, but it didn't materialise."Everybody thinks it's a done deal but that's far from the case and if he's here when the window shuts and I can add one or two, I'll be a happy guy - I'm still looking to bring two players in, and that's with all the hard work that's been put in at the stadium."
