Jelavic keen to prove his worth

ew recruit Nikica Jelavic admits he still has some way to go before he deserves the adulation of the Rangers fans. The Croatian striker made his debut in the 2-1 win over St Johnstone in the Scottish Premier League after being granted a work permit. The introduction of Jelavic, who signed from Rapid Vienna for £4million, was met with noisy approval from the Ibrox faithful when he came off the bench with just over 20 minutes to go.He concedes he needs time to adapt to the Scottish game but is confident of his ability to settle in his new surroundings."It was nice to hear all these fans but I have to prove myself to deserve this," he said."I had 20 minutes and it was hard but I think it will be better and better."I don't know how long it will take for top match sharpness but I hope it won't be too long."You have to go for every ball 100% so it's a little bit different but I think it will come."It was nice to be part of this game and it was a hard match."But after we showed out character, we won the match which is very important for us."Speculation surrounds the future of Kenny Miller ahead of the transfer deadline after it emerged he rejected a new contract with the Scottish champions. The striker has netted in every SPL game so far this season, with the winner on Saturday bringing his tally to five this term and 50 for Rangers altogether.Jelavic urged him to remain at Rangers so they can forge a profitable partnership.Jelavic said: "It's nice to play with this guy because he doesn't need a 100% chance - he only needs a little moment and he scores."It's good to play with him. I don't know his situation but I hope he will stay with us."Danny Grainger stunned Rangers when he claimed the opener for Saints, before Sasa Papac levelled the scoreline with some help from defender Kevin Rutkiewicz.Miller then netted what proved to be the decisive goal, despite claims from the Saints camp that he fouled Alan Maybury in the build-up.Grainger said: "It's a nice memory for myself personally to score the goal but it's nothing now."It would have been nice if it was the winning goal or had even got us a point out of the game."If you look back at the video, you can see it was a blatant foul on Alan Maybury for the second goal."I just can't believe the referee didn't see it."It has been a bit of an injustice that we didn't get at least a point from the game."Sometimes you get these decisions and sometimes you don't."It's not just in Glasgow, it could have happened at McDiarmid Park, Hamilton, anywhere."
