Izaguirre delighted by Celtic switch

Emilio Izaguirre has revealed he came close to joining Wigan but described his move to Celtic as the one he has waited his whole career for. Izaguirre has long sought a move to British football, but until he completed his Celtic switch, he was frustrated.Izaguirre secured a trial at Ipswich back in 2008, but problems with a work permit meant a move could not be completed. This summer he entered talks with Wigan about another transfer to England from his Honduran club, Motagua, but again his hopes were foiled.Izaguirre, poised to make his Celtic debut with the trip to Motherwell tomorrow, said: "Coming to a club like Celtic is a dream come true at last for me."I will put the effort in during training every day and play each match here as if it's the last game of my life."There was a chance I could have joined Wigan, but it was only going to be possible if [existing left-back] Maynor Figueroa left and he didn't."It's true that when I was younger I went to Ipswich, but I couldn't get the work permit at that time."Izaguirre, who featured in the World Cup for Honduras, last week made a special trip to Guatemala to ensure the paperwork would not present a problem with a transfer to Celtic. He added: "Celtic showed a lot of interest in me and I'm delighted to be here. I think any player in the world would be happy to arrive at a club as big as this."I know the demands of playing for Celtic, that you have to win every game, but I'm ready for that."The Scottish game has a fast pace to it, but I think that will suit my own style of game. I feel fit enough to start on Sunday if the manager selects me."Izaguirre admitted he was stunned that Celtic exited European football earlier this week with a dreadful 4-0 reverse in Utrecht that denied them qualification to the Europa League despite arriving in Holland with a two-goal lead.He said: "I couldn't really believe what happened on Thursday night. I would never have thought it could happen."Of course European football was an attraction to me coming here so it's disappointing, but I have many more years here for that."
