Hammers land Obinna on loan

West Ham have confirmed the signing of Nigeria international Victor Obinna on a season-long loan deal from Inter Milan. Obinna, 23, joins from European champions Inter Milan having spent last season on loan with Spanish side Malaga. He becomes the club's sixth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Thomas Hitzlsperger, Tal Ben Haim, Winston Reid, Pablo Barrera and Frederic Piquionne. The Hammers' deal for Obinna includes an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.Obinna made two appearances for Nigeria in the 2010 World Cup, where the Super Eagles failed to get out of a group containing Argentina, South Korea and Greece. He joined Inter in the summer of 2008 from another Italian club, Chievo.West Ham manager Avram Grant said: "Victor Obinna has signed for us and we are very happy. He's a very good player for us and can play in many forward positions."He is also part of our plans for the next season to take players who can develop. He has signed on loan with an option to buy."We came here and wanted to change things and make things better. We have a problem with the financial situation, as everybody knows, the team is in a lot of debt."This is the reason we are taking players on loan with options - first because it is cheaper and second because it will be good for us in the future. We can see that. We are looking for players."West Ham are waiting in hope that Obinna receives the necessary clearance in order to be considered for Saturday's Premier League clash with Manchester United.Obinna is not expected to be the last of West Ham's summer recruits, with Grant desperate to plug the gaping hole at right-back.Reid, the New Zealand international, is the only defensive signing Grant has made this summer - and West Ham have conceded six in their first two league games. But he insisted the struggling Hammers cannot afford to enter Saturday's clash at Old Trafford with any form of apprehension."It will not be an easy fixture, especially for us because we are trying to get everything more organised and we are only at the beginning of a process - but I don't think Manchester United will have an easy life tomorrow."I see the players in training every day and I'm confident we can do something."Manchester United are a good team and they have top players. Not only Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez but also Dimitar Berbatov and Paul Scholes, who I think becomes younger every year."They are the best players, for the moment, in England."But I believe in football anything can happen. In football you need to think like this. I think we showed in the past that anything can happen."One thing I don't want is for us to give up before the game, nor in the game."
