Hammers linked with Gerrard swoop

West Ham are considering a bid to sign Cardiff defender Anthony Gerrard, according to reports on Tuesday. The 24-year-old joined the Bluebirds from Walsall last year and was a regular in Dave Jones' side as the club missed out on promotion via the play-offs.However, this season has seen Gerrard surprisingly left on the bench for Cardiff's Championship fixtures and his sole appearance came in the Carling Cup.He is now attracting interest from the Premier League, with West Ham understood to be weighing up a move for the centre-half.Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday have also been linked with Gerrard, although Owls boss Alan Irvine played down an interest in the defender."I am surprised to hear that one," said Irvine."I would expect that Anthony Gerrard's under contract which would require there to be a fee involved, and we don't have any money."
