On the cheap: Bordeaux forward Fernando Cavenaghi (right) is wanted at SunderlandSunderland have made enquiries about Bordeaux striker Fernando Cavenaghi as Steve Bruce steps up his bid to sign a new striker before Tuesday week's transfer deadline.Bordeaux are prepared to reluctantly off-load the Argentina international after failing to agree a contract extension on a deal that runs out next summer.The Ligue 1 side lost Marouane Chamakh on a Bosman free to Arsenal this summer and don't want the same to happen with Cavenaghi.Stadium of Light boss Bruce wants to add more firepower, particularly after starting the season with a draw against Birmingham and a defeat by West Bromwich.Sunderland have signed Danny Welbeck on a season-long loan from Manchester United, but are lacking experience and creativity after the £8million sale of Kenwyne Jones to Stoke City.Darren Bent has been struggling with injury, while Bruce's other options are Fraizer Campbell and 20-year-old Martyn Waghorn. David Healy seems to be on his way out.Bruce failed in a bid to take Craig Bellamy from Manchester City and has been put off a bid for Tottenham Hotspur's Peter Crouch by the high price tag.Cavenaghi missed Bordeaux's 2-1 win at Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday night with a knock, but is assured a start for Jean Tigana's side this season in any case.Asked about a potential move, Cavenghi said: 'Why not? If a club wants to hire me, I have to think about it.
