Andy Carroll won't be distracted by England talk after first Newcastle hat-trick

Modest Andy Carroll refused to talk about a potential elevation to the England squad despite grabbing a hat-track in front of Fabio Capello's right-hand man - and the England legend whose boots he could fill for club and country.Alan Shearer, who wore the No 9 shirt with such distinction for England and Newcastle, watched with delight as Gateshead-born Carroll battered Aston Villa into submission during the 6-0 rout at St James's Park.Franco Baldini, who was also a spectator as the 21-year-old wore the famous No 9 shirt number for the first time, will surely take a glowing report back to Capello having witnessed three left-footed goals and a display of aerial superiority. Flying: Franco Baldini saw Andy Carroll's celebration three times at St James's Park on SundayBut Carroll would not be drawn on his international future and instead spoke of his pride at scoring his first ever senior hat-trick for the club he has supported since childhood. 'I just concentrate on myself,' said Carroll.'I know I can play football and score goals like I did, and that's what I go out there to do.'Obviously, it's great for people to see what I can do and stuff, but I'm just happy with three points and all the lads playing like they did. Left in no doubt: Although Carroll is recognised for his strength in the air, his three goals against Aston Villa all came from his left foot 'It was a great game and a great performance by all the lads, and getting a hat-trick in the first game of the season at home was fantastic.'There were no headers in it - they were all left-footed - but really it was all about the quality of the balls that went into the box for me to score the goals.'The result provided an electric start to the Magpies' home campaign and was an instant response to the 3-0 defeat at Manchester United in their Premier League opener. A cut above: Carroll provided a commanding display of aerial dominance as well as lethal finishingAnd Carroll believes home form will be key to Newcastle's season. 'Last season, we didn't lose here and before the game that's what we were all talking about,' he said.  'We just went out like we did last season and proved a point to anybody who was doubting us.'We've got to keep working hard week in, week out. I thought we were pretty unlucky against Man United, and now we're showing what we can do.'  Newcastle boss Chris Hughton salutes Andy Carroll after striker bags hat-trick in six goal romp against Aston VillaNewcastle's Andy Carroll set for legendary No 9 Toon shirtNewcastle 6 Aston Villa 0: Carroll hat trick leads terrific Toon Army to rompNEWCASTLE UNITED FC
