Cherries: Pitman signs for Bristol City

BRETT Pitman's transfer to Bristol City has this afternoon been confirmed. The striker was due to undergo a medical this morning and the Robins have now officially reported the Jerseyman's signing on a three-year contract. Pitman, who turned down a move to Blackpool last week, has moved for an undisclosed fee. Reports in the West Country suggest the deal could eventually be worth as much as £800,000, while the Echo understands one of City's players could move in the other direction. The 22-year-old's prolific form spearheaded Cherries' against-the-odds promotion out of League Two last term and his goalscoring is understood to have attracted the interest of clubs including Ipswich Town, Swansea City and Doncaster Rovers. Blackpool agreed a deal, thought to be worth in the region of £600,000, for Pitman last week, only for the Cherries star to decline the move. The Robins swooped on Friday and have now landed their man, subject to Football League clearance. For the full story and reaction, see tomorrow's Echo.
