Hughes - Ronaldo sum is huge

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes says Cristiano Ronaldo's proposed £80million move to Real Madrid could stimulate the transfer market. Hughes believes that the stupendous amounts of cash being offered for players over the summer window will raise the game for other clubs. Having pulled off a £32.5million bid for Robinho last year, the City boss is no stranger to splashing the cash. Not ruling out any big-money transfers himself, Hughes admitted a certain amount of respect for Sir Alex Ferguson in agreeing to such a lucrative deal. "It's a significant amount of money and it's a huge outlay," he said. "It may well stimulate the market now. The levels of money required now to attract the best players in the world is huge. "Manchester United must feel it is good business for them. Sir Alex Ferguson makes key decisions very quickly and he must think it's the right thing for the club. You have to respect that." City have been linked with a move for United striker Carlos Tevez as well as Valencia frontman David Villa. Hughes, though, says he will take his time in finding the right players to take the club forward. He said: "We are still looking to address areas of the team and squad but we have to make sure that the quality we attract here is the right quality."
