The winger sustained an ankle injury in training but still managed to finish as the club's second top scorer with 11 goals.
And the 22-year-old is now scheduled return to Boundary Park a few days before the rest of the squad start pre-season training in order to build up his fitness.
Penney told the club's official website: "Chris is doing very well with his ankle and barring any complications he should be more than ready for pre-season training.
"I am very happy with the attitude shown by the players in general and we have a lot of work ahead of us when training begins on June 29."
