Southend United's Tommy Widdrington on playing Port Vale

Blues assistant boss Tommy Widdrington returned to Port Vale twice to end up playing for them 97 times, but is only looking for victory against them at Roots Hall Saturday afternoon. Widdrington: The Shrimpers No.2 Tommy Widdrington had a great time at Port Vale and hopes they do well this season, but Tommy only wants them to start picking up the points after Southend's League Two encounter with the Valiants tomorrow afternoon.   Tommy told www.echo-news.co.uk: "My remit there first time, when I was on loan, was to help them stay in the Championship which I did. I was rewarded with a two year contract and it was a successful time for me individually because I captained the club and felt I did them a good service. I would love them to do well this season because they are a great club, but only after we've played them. While with Vale they lifted the Football League Trophy, but since he left they've turned to former Fulham and Brighton boss Micky Adams to get them out of the basement division.Tommy continued: "Micky is someone I played with in the Premier league at Southampton and he has a great record as a manager. He put the ball on a plate for my first ever top flight goal and I'm sure that now he has his own players in they will have a good season." As for the Shrimpers faltering start in the league: "I won't look at a league table until after 10 games", he said.
