Fulham stand firm over Schwarzer

Arsenal have failed with a second bid of around £2million for veteran Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, according to reports. The Gunners saw an offer knocked back by the Cottagers in May and have received short shrift once again in their latest approach. It is believed that the terms offered by Arsenal were the same as those put on the table earlier in the summer, with a £2million bid believed to have been put forward.Fulham remain reluctant to do business at that price, despite Schwarzer making it clear that he wants to move on.The Australia international has admitted that the opportunity to move to Emirates Stadium would be too good to turn down and recently put in a transfer request. The Cottagers accept that the 37-year-old wants to further his career at a club competing in the Champions League, but insist they will not be held to ransom.Mark Hughes will not part with his first-choice shot-stopper unless his terms are met, and Arsenal have been made well aware of that.It remains to be seen whether the Gunners will return with a third offer for Schwarzer, but Arsene Wenger is known to be in the market for a reliable last line of defence. The summer transfer window is not due to close until 6pm on August 31, so there is still plenty of time for an agreement to be reached.
