Toon Star Says Relegation Did Him Good

I remember when we lost the play-offs to the Mackems back in 1990 a lot of Toon fans said: "It was the best thing that could have happened - we were not ready for the top flight". Personally I have not heard a bigger load of SHIT spoken in all my years following Newcastle. It was a disaster that took three years to recover from. So much so we suffered so much from that 2-0 defeat at St James' Park on May 16th (a date I will never forget) that we almost ended up in Division Three not long after after. And when Danny Guthrie says the Championship did him good last season, I think he is a player looking at the glass being half full rather than half empty. He is taking the positive stance . and that's the right attitude to take into this new season. Danny Guthrie: “I do think I am a better player after a year in the Championship, not that I want to do it again. “It makes you stronger in terms of your mental strength, as well as physically. “Also because I have that sense of achievement at the end of it. “We proved a lot of people wrong last season. “It was a really positive experience for me as a player and a person, but it is not one I ever want to do again.”
