Gerrard striving for Reds success

Steven Gerrard has admitted he wants to put the disappointments with club and country behind him to have a successful season this time around. The Liverpool skipper silenced his doubters with a two-goal salvo against Hungary in England's 2-1 victory at Wembley to kick-start his season with a bang and leaving him raring to go.Despite rumours he would leave this summer, the 30-year-old will lead out his team against Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday hoping to get a new era under Roy Hodgson off to a good start. It has been a difficult year for Gerrard, after the Reds laboured campaign last season saw them finish trophyless and seventh in the Premier League under former manager Rafa Benitez.England's dismal World Cup performance failed to add any silver lining to Gerrard's season either, where he was some way below his best for his boyhood club. However the midfielder was confident that the feel good factor was back on Merseyside and that they could have a successful season under new management."Everyone is going to work with a smile on their face again," he said."Roy is successful and the players are looking forward to working with him, so I'm very excited about the new season."At the start of every season I set myself personal targets. Because I play for such a big club like Liverpool, it has to be silverware that I am after."I'm a local lad, a Liverpool fan, and I felt the disappointment of last season like the fans did."I have had some highs and some lows, but I am desperate to experience some more great nights as a Liverpool player because I know time is running out for me. I don't know whether last season was the lowest point of my career."
