Steelmen snap up striking duo

Motherwell have added two strikers to their squad, signing Spaniard Esteban Casagolda and taking Blackburn's Nick Blackman on loan. Former FC Brussels forward Casagolda, 23, signed a one-year contract on Thursday night and Blackman will arrive at Fir Park on Friday on a six-month loan deal. The 20-year-old was taken to Rovers by his former Macclesfield boss, Paul Ince, and spent last season on loan at Oldham following a short spell at Blackpool.Motherwell manager Craig Brown said: "Esteban Casagolda is a promising lad, we've seen him in training for a couple of weeks and he looks as though he will score goals for us."Nick Blackman is a very, very exciting young striker."They are both quick, and both lively. Their movement is good, that's the main thing about them."Blackman is a tall boy and he's good in the air. He's got pace to burn, a good left foot."We had a good lift from Lukas Jutkiewicz last season and we consider Blackman is as good a player and is going to be as productive for us as Jutkiewicz was and, if that's the case, we'll be well pleased."He has really blossomed in pre-season. My friend who is the first-team coach at Blackburn, Steve Kean, said he would definitely score goals in the SPL."The double signing is a huge boost to Motherwell ahead of the visit of Hibernian on Sunday after Brown had raised fears he would be unable to bring in an outfield player to his first-team squad this summer. But the run to the Europa League play-offs has allowed him extra scope and his business may not be finished."We might try to fiddle with the team a little and see if we can have some movement before the end of the transfer window," Brown said."We're still on the lookout to freshen up the squad and supplement it."If the deal is right and the chairman is prepared to co-operate, as he has done brilliantly to allow us to get these strikers in, we might manager to get someone else."Blackman will join the squad for the European tie against Odense but Casagolda will not as Motherwell are restricted to one addition to their registered pool.
