McLeish calm over Blues contract
Alex McLeish says he is "relaxed" about his future at Birmingham and revealed a new 12-month rolling deal will come into effect next summer. McLeish is currently negotiating an improved contract as a reward for steering Birmingham to a top-10 finish in the Premier League last season.But, even if those talks stall, the former Scotland boss has long-term security as he approaches his fourth campaign at St Andrews.McLeish said: "The contract situation is ongoing. That probably sums it up. I'm fine."I am relaxed about it. I'm not panicking and don't think anyone should get too worked up about it."I'm relaxed about the way things are going and my lawyer is speaking to the board and will continue to speak to the board."McLeish added: "I've not given myself a time-line. I've got a secure contract anyway."It expires next season and then goes into a rolling contract so there is still scope for me anyway."But at the same time it would be nice to move things along a little bit and get things out of the road."The one thing I'd rather be talking about is football, our opposition, rather than contracts."McLeish is also concentrating 100% on Birmingham amidst speculation that he is a candidate to replace Martin O'Neill at Aston Villa.He said: "You can't help speculation but I'm concentrating on the Birmingham job."I don't really even want to talk about other jobs when I'm in a very good job as it is and I want to try and emulate the feats we achieved last season."McLeish is also adamant the fact he has not penned a new deal will not affect any potential new signings.He said: "I wouldn't have thought so, certainly not in terms of the players we have spoken to this week."They were willing to come to the club but it wasn't to be."McLeish was referring to AZ Alkmaar striker Moussa Dembele and Juventus midfielder Mauro Camoranesi.Dembele is looking at other options while McLeish has decided not to pursue his interest in Camoranesi.Keeper Ben Foster is expected to be fit for Saturday's clash at Sunderland despite withdrawing from the England squad to face Hungary with a back spasm.
