Zamora enjoying eventful week
obby Zamora admits it has been something of a "crazy week" after a first England call-up followed by his partner giving birth to twin girls. However, the Fulham striker intends to enjoy every moment.Zamora is one of a string of new faces in Fabio Capello's senior squad for Wednesday night's friendly against Hungary at Wembley.The 29-year-old had been on the verge of making the final party for the World Cup following a superb season for Europa League finalists Fulham, only to see his dreams dashed by an Achilles injury which needed surgery.After finally breaking through into the senior international set-up, the former Brighton, Tottenham and West Ham forward intends to make the most of his opportunity."It has been a crazy week, but very enjoyable, so I am going to try to enjoy it all," said Zamora."The twins were born last Monday, they came out on Friday, then I had a match on Saturday, was back home for one day and then I was away with England, so I have not seen them as much as I wanted to, but I am sure I will find some time when I get back home."The twins, Gisele and Siena, are a massive part of my life now, and with getting the call-up to play for your country is a massive honour."I am lost for words. I am extremely proud to be called up to play for my country."Zamora recalled: "Last year was a bit disappointing that I could not go to the World Cup because of my injury, but I guess that is life."Going and not doing either myself or the country justice says it all - you cannot go if you are not 100%, that is not fair on anybody, so in that sense the decision was quite easy."It had to be sorted over the summer, it has been operated on and feels 100% now, so I am looking forward to doing well for England."I have been training well, and certainly do not feel out of place."At the moment, it is one step at a time - hopefully I can get this cap under my belt and look to push on, to do well."If I get my chance, I am going to grab it."With the retirement of Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey, there would appear to now be a vacancy in the England attack to supplement the tenacity of Wayne Rooney.West Ham forward Carlton Cole is another option for Capello, but Zamora - who netted 21 goals last season, nine in Europe - believes he can certainly add something to the frontline."If they can bring the ball up to me, I would like to think I can hold it up and bring Wayne in, the guys from midfield and also get some shots off," Zamora said.Manchester United striker Rooney came in for criticism following his below-par performances in South Africa, where he failed to find the net.But Zamora defended his international team-mate, saying: "Everybody is expecting amazing things from him every time, and if he does have an off-day then everyone picks up on that."Wayne is one of the best players in the world and it will be an honour to play alongside him."Much has been made of the reasons behind the Three Lions bitterly disappointing World Cup campaign.Zamora, though, stresses the current squad are focused on the future, rather than continuing with post-mortems."The boss touched on it briefly today, that we want to push on and try to do well," the Fulham striker said."Everyone who is involved with the England set-up wants to do well and the whole of the country wants to win."The World Cup is in the past, and hopefully it can be forgotten, so we can all crack on to the next tournament now."
