Hughes backs Bobby for England

Mark Hughes has urged Fulham striker Bobby Zamora to grasp his chance to become a regular England international. The newly-appointed Cottagers boss was delighted to hear that his striker was rewarded for a fine campaign last season by being called up for Fabio Capello's latest squad to play Hungary on Wednesday.Zamora has yet to receive a cap for the Three Lions, but Hughes has called upon the 29-year-old to cement a place in Capello's side midweek."We're delighted for Bobby. It's recognition for his fine play in recent times," said the Cottagers boss in the Daily Mail."He looks a good player and he has to kick on now and be one of the main players in the Premier League."If he has an opportunity and he gets the shirt, it's all about grasping it. He mustn't allow the progress that he's undoubtedly made in recent times to waver. There's a wind of change in the England squad, and he may well benefit from that."What Bobby's got to do is build on last year and the performances that have been highlighted by Capello. If he has a similar season we benefit and obviously England will, because we'll both have a player with great ability."Zoltan Gera, Zamora's Fulham team-mate, is likely to line-up against England at Wembley on Wednesday and the Hungarian ace insists his club colleague fully deserves his place in the Three Lions set-up.Gera, who netted a hat trick for the Cottagers at the weekend in their final pre-season game, said: "It doesn't matter how old you are, if you play well and deserve to play in the best team in your country."It doesn't matter how old you are, it matters how well you're doing on the pitch. "What Bobby's got to do is build on last year and the performances that have been highlighted by Capello. If he has a similar season we benefit and obviously England will, because we'll both have a player with great ability.""I said to Bobby, 'See you on Wednesday, on the field, at Wembley'. He had a fantastic season last season and he's a quality player."England have lots of good young players, hungry players and are a very good team so it's going to be difficult for us."
