Mowbray looks to next year
Tony Mowbray has dedicated West Brom's last day performance to the fans after their creditable 0-0 draw with Blackburn at Ewood Park.
The Baggies went into the game already relegated after defeat to Liverpool last week left it mathematically impossible to escape the drop and the point left them bottom of the pile on goal difference.
It was a game of few chances but the ones that did arise often fell to the away side and Mowbray is preparing to make changes to bolster his attacking options for their promotion push next term.
"We never really felt too threatened, I think they had a few chances at the start, one hit the post," Mowbray told Sky Sports. "Generally I thought we were the team in charge today but we never got the result again.
"We do miss too many chances but we've conceded way too many goals, that has probably been our main problem. Today we looked quite strong against a very, very, powerful, physical side.
"We knew our fate, we just asked them for a performance for the supporters today and I think they did that, unfortunately we couldn't put the icing on top of the cake with a victory."
BidsMowbray must now hope the club can resist potential bids for star players such as Chris Brunt, who has made a real impact in the Premier League this season, as the Baggies return to life in the Championship.
He added: "If we lose one or two, so be it. But hopefully we won't lose anybody we want to keep, we don't need to - we're financially solid.
"So we'll go into next season in a positive mood and hopefully be very strong in that division. The team will have changed a bit and we know the league is very competitive."
Second half substitute Jason Roberts received a red card during the stalemate for an alleged punch on West Brom opponent Jonas Olsson.
Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce dismissed the decision as incorrect and Mowbray too admitted his doubts.
"It was a bit of a mystery. I was saying to the fourth official 'it's not really a day for sending people off' but yet he did say he threw a punch. I haven't seen any re-runs of it, but that's football," said Mowbray.
