Torquay manager Paul Buckle was delighted by the manner in which his team beat Northampton.
Goals from Kevin Nicholson, Chris Zebroski and Elliot Benyon earned the Gulls a 3-0 win, and in the process extended their unbeaten run to nine league games. They have also now gone a club record of 781 minutes without conceding a league goal.
Buckle said: "It's great that we have carried on where we left off last season really.
"We were unbeaten in the last eight last season and as much as I am delighted that we have scored three goals, I am just as happy that we haven't conceded.
"It's another clean sheet and also extends the club record for not conceding.
"We have had a good pre-season and now we have carried it into the season. Now we look forward to getting Reading here in the Carling Cup on Wednesday."
