Sheffield Wednesday boss Alan Irvine insisted his side were far from the finished article after they opened their campaign with a routine 2-0 home win over Dagenham.
The Owls were relegated in May but they quickly stamped their authority on npower League One with an own-goal from Scott Doe and Clinton Morrison securing a comfortable success.
Yet Irvine said: "We have a lot to do, it's a new squad, 12 players have gone out and nine have come in.
"It's very much a work in progress to quote other managers.
"First half hour I thought we were fantastic and created a lot of chances and looked a real threat with our movement.
"Then after that, we got careless and gave away a few set-pieces and that brought a bit of pressure on us. We started the second half slowly but then as it went on I felt we were fairly comfortable."
