Embargo lifted, claim Cardiff

Cardiff boss Dave Jones has claimed the Football League have lifted their transfer embargo on the npower Championship outfit. The sanction was imposed on the Bluebirds in May due to a delay in paying a £1.3million PAYE to HM Revenue & Customs and other football-related debts. Yet the club now claim the league is satisfied the debts have been paid so Jones can register his three summer signings. The league have refused to comment on the matter but Jones told BBC Sport: "The embargo is off. That has all been sorted so we are now able to register players." Cardiff now hope to register summer signings Tom Heaton and loan duo Jason Koumas and Danny Drinkwater with the Football League so the trio are eligible for Sunday's npower Championship opener with Sheffield United. Cardiff chief executive Gethin Jenkins told BBC Sport: "It has been challenging but we are pleased the embargo has been lifted. It means we can register the players we've already brought in. And Dave Jones will now come forward with a list of other players he is looking to recruit to strengthen the playing squad."
