The Football Association has confirmed Newcastle United have appealed against Sebastien Bassong's red card against Fulham.
Bassong received his marching orders in the 60th minute of the 1-0 loss against Fulham at St James' Park after referee Howard Webb adjudged the French defender to have denied Diomansy Kamara a goalscoring opportunity.
Newcastle, who now lie in the relegation zone, are hopeful of being successful with their appeal ahead of the final game of the season against Aston Villa.
A statement on the FA's website read: "The FA has received a claim for wrongful dismissal from Newcastle United defender Sebastian Bassong.
"Bassong was shown a red card for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity during Newcastle's match against Fulham on 16th May.
"A Regulatory Commission will hear the claim on 19th May."
