Heckingbottom makes fitness vow

The former Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday defender, one of four players not handed a new deal by manager Stuart McCall admitted it has been a season he wants to forget. Heckingbottom told the club's official website: "I just thought we would get promoted and it would take a good team to beat us to the title. We started off so well and I was really enjoying the football we were playing. It was a good place to be. "But it ended up being my worst season in football with the injury and the way we missed out as a team. "I've been injured since October so I wasn't expecting a new deal, but I can't look back and think about what might have been." The 31-year-old added: "I'm going to get fit through the summer and hopefully play somewhere else. It will be hard to get another club with a lot of players out of contract, particularly when you've been injured for a long time, but it's just a matter of showing people what I can do again."
