Carsley: Blues need proven quality

Blues achieved automatic promotion with a 2-1 victory over play-off semi-finalists Reading on the final day of the Championship season to bounce straight back one year after being relegated. However, club captain Carsley is aware the club now needs consistency to be able to compete with the best teams in the country. "The Premier League needs to be a long-term plan for the club and that means we will need investing in on and off the pitch," Carsley told the Birmingham Mail. "It's important that we bring the right quality of player in, not necessarily flair players or superstars, but we do need good Premier League players who can play at that level. "A lot of people will be expecting us to go straight back down and though we need players to help bolster the squad, I think we've got something that money can't buy and that's resilience, teamwork and togetherness."
