Nelson upset by attendance drop

An average of 1,897 fans attended home matches in the season just ended, down on the figure of 2,297 for 2007/2008. Only Accrington had a lower average in the Football League with 1,415, while Bradford had the highest in League Two with 12,247 in a season which saw Macclesfield lose 12 times on home soil. Nelson told the Manchester Evening News: "Of course it's very disappointing to have seen crowds drop by 17%. But given we didn't have the best of records at home, it was partly to be expected. "We also lost the local derby with Stockport which had a significant impact, the game having attracted a crowd of over 3,500 last season. "What it does show is that we have to work twice as hard this coming season to ensure we start moving back in the right direction."
